Secure Online Giving

10-08-2023Weekly ReflectionRev. Emmanuel I. Ihemedu

Dear Parishioners of St. John Paul the Great,

I hope this message finds you sipping on a warm cup of something – perhaps that daily latte from Starbucks or that delightful cup of Dunkin' Donuts brew. Speaking of which, have you ever noticed how even the smallest cappuccino nowadays costs more than that lone dollar bill often found rumpled in our collection basket?

Now, don't get me wrong! Every dollar is a gift, and we're grateful for every single one. But if you're slipping in just one, maybe try not to crumple it too much? Our collection counters have recently formed an unofficial “Unrumple Squad,” and they could use a break.

While on the topic of coffee, here's a thought! Next time you buy that $4 cup of coffee, why not set aside an equal amount as a "Coffee for Jesus?" Imagine: you're enjoying your latte, and our parish gets a little caffeinated boost too!

Now, if you're anything like me and occasionally forget or misplace things (like that time I misplaced my homily and nearly delivered last year's Easter message at Christmas), I've got news for you: Online Giving! Right there in the pews is a QR code that'll lead you directly to our secure online donation page. It's so convenient that even when you're on vacation in the Bahamas (or more likely, your backyard), you can still remember us. If you're wondering about the safety, I use it every week. It's easier than finding where I last put my glasses. Plus, think of all the trees we save by not printing envelopes!

Beyond the spiritual nourishment I aim to provide, I've also got to ensure the lights stay on, the heating works in winter, and the church roof doesn't decide to become an open-air concept. And trust me, it's a task as monumental as getting the incense just right.

In all seriousness, you are the backbone of this church. Without your continuous love and financial support, our beloved church would struggle. As you make plans, financial or otherwise, for your households, keep a small corner of your heart reserved for St. John Paul the Great. Your church depends on it.

Thank you for being the true patrons of our parish, bankrolling not just the utilities and maintenance but the very spirit of our community.
