Confirmation

Confirmation is a Catholic Sacrament of mature Christian commitment and a deepening of baptismal gifts. It is one of the three Sacraments of Initiation for Catholics. It is most often associated with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

For teenagers entering at a later age, we offer a three-year high school Confirmation program. Confirmation candidates over the age of 18 are invited to join our Adult Confirmation.

Choosing a Saint Name for Confirmation

The custom of choosing a saint name is an ancient and powerful tradition. Choosing a Christian saint or biblical hero is a concrete reminder for the child and everyone else that God is calling that child, like his or her Christian namesake, to holiness and heaven.

Throughout the scriptures we constantly see this notion of a name change after conversion or a specific mission is given, from Abraham in the Old Testament to the apostles in the New.

A Christian name concretely indicates that there is, and is meant to be, a connection and continuity between natural and supernatural life, and between earthly and eternal life.

Parents

Parents of baptized children preparing to receive the sacraments of reconciliation and holy Communion are asked to attend one meeting for reconciliation and two meetings of holy Communion during the child’s second year of preparation. These meetings will take place during their faith formation year.

Choosing Sponsors

A sponsor is a Catholic who has received the sacraments of initiation, who will help the child to be baptized learn and live their faith for the remainder of the child and sponsors lives. This person should live their faith actively and vividly. Ideally, there are to be two Sponsors, (one of each gender), a godmother and sponsor; but there must minimally be one sponsor who is able to fulfill the canonical requirements of this sublime role.
